Hi All,

Can anybody tell me what the deal is when your visa has expired?
A friend of mine who has been staying here for some time now,forgot to renew her visa and wants to know what or if there is any penalty to pay for being late...ie 6 months?

Im not to sure cause ive never had that problem and she doesnt want to go and find out because she was told that if your late then they can throw you out of the country.
I really dont think thats true but if anyone knows anything about this kind of situation your info would be most grateful.

hate to say this babes.. but you`ll your friend will be in serious TROUBLE!!!!!! i had 3 days left on my visa and the guy in passport control said i was ` LUCKY` i think she should go to her Embassey. Maybe they can sort it out.. coz i wouldnt go to the airport coz she wont get home. Maybe Sonny can shed some more light on this subject coz im only guessin myself! but i know she`ll get a fine and maybe banned from Turkey.

Well first thing is dont panic...

There's nothing you can do - you should have checked when the visa expired. If you get caught on the way out you'll have to pay the fine, and you'll quite likely get a stamp in your passport prohibiting re-entry into Turkey for a period of time. If you can't pay the fine, they can thoretically put you in detention (in reality, I doubt they would).

I dont think theres anyway round it for the fact your visa is stamped both on the way in & on the way out, so no matter how you try you wont get by emigration

Your best bet is to contact your nearest consulate & maybe the Turkish consulate in your home country, explain your "blonde day" and see who can help you!

Maybe i should have explained better,she doesnt want to leave turkey,she wants to continue living here.

She has a residence visa which she got when she started living here.
It was valid for 1 year but has been expired for last 6/7 mths.
This is what we want info about before she goes and reaplies for a new one.

oh you confused me with the british flag and

but.. im sure the situation your friend is in is much easier in turkey than in most of the other countries
before u cleared up your question, i've tried to find some info about similar situations on the net:
If you stay in Turkey longer than your visa allows, you will be liable to pay a substantial fine upon departure. This varies according to how long you have overstayed. From the moment you have overstayed your visa the minimum fine is 91.80 New Turkish Lira, rising incrementally each day to 179.80 NTL for an overstay of one month. If you stay longer than one month the fine increases substantially.

That can only mean that your friend will have to pay quite some money in order to cover for the past period and.. i hope someone will be able to tell you what are the possibilities of extending the visa that expired months ago but i also believe the best (and fastest) way to find that out is to inquire in your consulate

anyways, she has to do something .. cant go on like this forever cause i guess something could happen, she could get caught and basically.. jules is right (as usual)
