Hotel Grand Blue Sky - Kusadasi

Operator and Date: (Thomas Cook Discounts) Thomas Cook/Med Hotels July 2004

    Opinion submitted in Aug 2004 by : Melanie / Russell - London/Kent (36/34)

    Resort Rating: Excellent

    Accommodation Rating: Very Good

    My/Our Holiday Opinion:

The hotel was situated in beautiful well tended gardens right on the edge of a hill. All rooms faced the sea, and had a great view. The only gripes we had were that the air conditioning was centrally timed. It went off at 8.30 am, just as you would be getting up or if you had a lay in it was too stuffy in the room and you had to have the balcony door open. It also was off intermittently during the day and evening which was annoying if you were in and couldn't put it on!

Also the pool area was far too small for the size of the hotel, and although the children had their own pool you could not swim in the six foot deep pool without being surrounded by a sea of water wings and inflatable creatures. Consequently we spent each day on the lovely private hotel beach.

The Turkish bath in the hotel was fantastic and well worth doing, the snack bar food was nice and the outdoor cocktail bar was a lovely way to begin the evening. The hotel has a credit system whereby you settle the food/drink bill at the end of your stay which saved having to change alot of money up, (most restaurants will change it at a better rate than banks do anyway), and I noticed an that lots of shops were charging in Euros rather than Turkish Lira (which has an exchange rate of two and a half million to the pound!) but the prices were still very reasonable for most things.

We did a half day trip to Ephesus, and a day boat trip both were great.
The town of Kusadasi was very nice - lots of restaurants, bazaars etc, and if you didn't want to get a dolmus there you could walk just outside the hotel to Ladies Beach which had lots of restaurants/bars shops - we enjoyed eating in "Halikarnas" "Sea Garden" and drinking in "Monte Carlo" particularly!

We felt very welcome in Kusadasi, and it had a nice mix of people and had something for everyone.

    My/Our Holiday Opinion:

This was our 6th vist to the hotel.
The first time that we managed to get the kids along with partners. (aged 19 -25) They were so impressed that they are also returning 2005, this time on their own without the oldies.

The hotel for us has been a major part of our holiday, being always clean, generaly friendly, nothing too much trouble, in a great location. Very large rooms, all sea view, an all in one hotel

We have made a few friend (All Nationalties)through the hotel and stayed in touch, meeting up at the hotel year after year.

It is not every ones cup of tea as the site is rather steep, from beach to hotel. Recommend B&B only. As Ladies beach has enough resturants to eat in a differant one every night, and still not get to them all, although our favourite is still Rosy's, they do not attempt to hassel you in. it is always full.

My advise is try making friends with a turkish family (like we have) they will show you a differant Turkey.

The town is an old fishing village that grew into a city that has kept its own style.

You will have a hand band on your hand so they will easily know if you have All inclusive smile.gif well this name is tip you dont have to give any tip to anyone but if you are satisfied with the service , why not ! and how much ? there is no standart price for it you know LoL Hard to say ..And that is not true in restaurants 15 % from the total amount its also up to you , you dont have to give tip but if you are satisfied with the service , why not smile.gif and if you ask how much ? its also up to you but from 3 - 15 Turkish Lira which is between 2 - 10 € :36_1_36:

so here is my opinion about the grand blue sky

the architecture of the hotel is just great ,very nice views allthough there i a great different between the view from block a or the view from block b or c .

we 've booked a room in block b at a high floor and we recieved a room at block A on the ground floor ( after 2 days we got an other room in block C at the 3th floor)

the service is very bad in the hotel and the staff is also not very friendly
the almost don t speak any english there.

for exaple : there are 3 a la carte restaurants in the hotel there
first day we went to one and asked for a seat to have dinner , they told us we need to make a reservation to have dinner there .
second day we went to reception to make reservation at 3 pm to have dinner that night in one of the a la carte restaurants and the staff told us that we only can make reservations for the day after .
so i said ok then we make reservation for tomorrow , he said impossible u need to make reservation before 11.30 h .
3th day went to reception at 11.00h asked to make reservation for the day after (day 4 ) in one of the 3 restaurants he asked me witch one do u want to reserve for the italian the otomane or the seafood restaurant , we thinked for a second and tell him make it the italian he said sorry but italian is full then i sain ok no problem make it the otomane restaurant sorry he siad its also full then i asked him for the sea food and he told us it was closed at that day .......

at day 5 we were able to eat the first time in a alacarte restaurant .

really it was a great hotel but it falls apart because of the very bad service and unhappy staff
